Construction

Stone Street is a station on the U1 line. It lies on the eastern edge of the city center of Hamburg between the Deichtorplatz and the eponymous stone road. The subway train is passing under the parallel wall ring road tunnel, which is part of the ring 1 to the city center. Correspondingly, the platform is at a great depth. At both ends of the central platform ever an escalator and a fixed staircase leading to mezzanine floors. The southern mezzanine is located on the 1 level and leads directly to a pedestrian tunnel that passes under Deichtorplatz of Amsinckstraße coming to the locust Wall ( Kontorhausviertel with Sprinkenhof and City high-rise buildings ). In this tunnel system is located, separated by barrier grid from the pedestrian area, the bike area, which has a ramp on the east side, on the west side but also stairs to the surface. The corresponding mezzanine on the north side of lying on Geesthang station is therefore in the 2 level, from here to the west three escalators (one set is ) lead to a distribution of levels in the 1 level, from which several stairs lead to the outputs in the area of ​​stone street / locust Wall / Long Mühren. In the intermediate floors there were earlier the ticket window and the lock systems. These were dismantled in the late 1970s, after the end of the 1960s several ticket machines were set up (for each stage of a price ), the mid-1970s were replaced by two more price - ticket machines in each switch hall. In the southern ticket hall, which also offered direct access to the earlier trains running here tram direction Veddel, William Castle and Harburg, there used to be a snack bar and a bakery kiosk. On the platform itself were still in the 1970s, a newspaper and a cigarette kiosk that were initially closed after moving out the tenant with plates and later dismantled. After the introduction of self-handling by the train drivers on monitors in the vehicle train manufacturing house was also removed on the platform and renovated the station. In this case, the lighting was changed.

The two neighboring stations Hauptbahnhof Süd and Meßberg are both less than 500 meters, it is the shortest distances between stops of the entire line U1.

History

The U -Bahn station stone street is part of the extension of the built before the Second World War " Kell Jung- line " by the then terminus Jungfernsstieg Central Station, which was built in the late 1950s. The section Meßberg to the main train station with the station stone street was opened in October 1960. The architects of the station were Gottfried Schramm and Jürgen Elingius.

Today offers connecting flights to three city bus and each one express bus and a night bus to the north of the Deichtorplatzes have their stop at the station. The stadteinwärtige bus stop is located on the former tram route between the entrances to Wallringtunnel and can be reached directly via its own staircase from the pedestrian tunnel.
