Stephen J. Solarz

Stephen Joshua Solarz ( born September 12, 1940 in New York City; † November 29, 2010 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party.

Solarz studied at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, where he received in 1962 his Bachelor of Arts ( BA). His Master of Arts ( MA), he received in 1967 at Columbia University in New York City. Subsequently, he taught from 1967 to 1968 Political Science at Brooklyn College. His political career began in the New York State Assembly, where he remained from 1969 to 1974. For the Democratic Party, he was delegate to the 1974 Democratic National Mid-term Convention. In the same year he was elected for his party in the 94th Congress of the United States. In the following years it succeeded Solarz to be eight times re-elected in the 13th Congressional District of New York. He represented the State of New York January 3, 1975 to January 3, 1993 at the House of Representatives of the United States. In the elections for 103 Congress in 1992 succeeded not to be set up again as a candidate him. After his retirement from the House of Representatives, he was appointed by President Bill Clinton as Chairman of the Central Asian-American Enterprise Fund and has held this post of 1993 to 1998.

Solarz spent his life in McLean, Virginia. November 2010 he died in a hospital in Washington, DC of esophageal cancer.
