Stipo a bambocci

Stipo a Bambocci (plural: Stipi a Bambocci ) denotes a certain type of display cabinets of the Renaissance in Northern Italy with lockable by a plate front. The construction wood is valuable walnut and walnut burl wood, some specially imported Caucasian walnut.

Bambocci

The peculiarity of the Stipi a Bambocci are her chubby, little carved figures, which are unique in this way, attachment and execution in cabinets and dressers. In some specimens surviving the Bambocci figures standing together in a context and form together an iconographic program, such as on a Stipo Bambocci the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, where the expulsion of Adam and Eve is shown from paradise.

Dating and localization

The earliest Stipi a Bambocci occurred at or shortly after 1560 in Genoa / Liguria province. Shortly after their first appearance, the demand began after these pieces to grow and craft production further Stipi a Bambocci was started. The end of the first decade of the 17th century ( around 1608 /09) also meant the end of the production of Stipi a Bambocci.

Pieces received

All have original pieces are very rare ( <12 copies) and are found only in private collections and museums, including the Museo Poldi Pezzoli -, Bagatti - Valsecchi or Castello Sforzesco, all in Milan.
