Stockade

Palanke (from French Palanque " stockade " / lurch. Entrenchment by -; Hungarian Palánk " log cabin " ) described a small permanent attachment by ditches, ramparts and palisades during the Turkish wars. She called often all fortified smaller cities, market towns, fortified villages and castles in the Ottomans.

The name of several towns in Bosnia, Serbia and Macedonia testifies to the former distribution of this Festungsart in the Balkans ( Brza Palanka, Banatska Palanka Bačka Palanka Smederevska Palanka, Kriva Palanka ).

Through the further development of the artillery end of the 19th century and especially after the introduction of the explosive grenade Palanken became obsolete as a fortress type.
