Stockhorn (Zermatt)

The Zermatt Stock Horn is a mountain with an altitude of 3'532 m above sea level. M. in the Swiss canton of Valais between the Triftjigletscher the north, reaches up to the summit, and the Gorner Glacier to the south. The stock horn is the eastern terminus of the ridge, which pulls up from Zermatt via Riffelhorn and the Gornergrat. To the east of the Stock Horn Pass ( 3'387 m) separates the Stockhornstrasse from Weissgrat.

Approximately 1200 meters west of the summit of the mountain station Stock Horn is located ( Lage45.986787.8099673405 ) the Zermatt mountain railways, which forms the highest point of the ski Gornergrat with 3,405 m. Accessible was the station Stockhornstrasse from Zermatt to the Gornergrat Railway and two funicular sections via Hohtälli. The cable car from Hohtälli on the stock horn was closed in April 2007 after more than 50 years since the approval has lapsed. The facilities have been removed in the summer of 2008.

A coming of Triftji drag lift serves as a replacement for the cable car. He was taken in winter 2007/2008 into operation.
