Geography

Stössing is in the Most district in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 27.47 square kilometers. 40.77 percent of the area is forested. The municipal area of Stössing is the 655 meter high Hegerberg - the highest peak in the district of St. Pölten.

History

In ancient times, the area was part of the province of Noricum. The parish Stössing was built in 1784 as part of the Josephine reforms. The present municipality was created around the year 1850. 1895 today's college for ecological agriculture and home economics Hochstrass, then Agricultural Haushaltungsschule of the Daughters of Divine Love was founded as a private school and received the 1917 public law. After the school was closed in 2009, had the monastery Hochstraß in which in the end still lived eight nuns close of 2011.
