Subscapularis muscle

The subscapularis muscle (Latin for " Subscapularis muscle " ) is a skeletal muscle in the shoulder area. It completely covers the inside of the shoulder blade. Together with the supraspinatus, infraspinatus and teres minor muscle it forms in humans, the rotator cuff, which keeps the head of the humerus in the glenoid fossa.

Function

The subscapularis is the strongest medial rotator of the shoulder joint. Its lower portion can arm adducted ( closer to the body lead ), however, its upper arm abduction ( away from the body to the side lift ).

Clinic

The wide terminal tendon of the subscapularis is an important protection against the anterior dislocation of the humerus. In paralysis the palm of the affected side may be performed only with difficulty and with the support of the other muscles in the back, since the internal rotation is severely restricted.
