Suhrawardiyya

The Suhrawardiyya (Arabic السهروردية, DMG as- Suhrawardīya ) is a Sufi order ( tariqa ).

The Order is based on the teachings of Diya ad-Din Abu ' n- Najib as- Suhrawardi 1097-1168 ضياء الدين أبو الناجب السهروردي. After studying Sharia in Baghdad this settled in a place on the Tigris. There he found a group of students ( dervishes ).

Greater influence won the Order later under the nephew of the founder, Shihab al-Din Abu Hafs ' Umar ( 1145-1234 ). This was even supported by the Caliphs and Sufis could attract from around the world who were interested in the teachings of the Suhrawardiyya.

Later the order was spread mainly to India, where he continued to branch out into different lines.

The best known representative of Suhrawardiyya was Schihabuddin Yahya as- Suhrawardi.
