Sukov

Sukov ( russinisch Суків / Sukiw, Hungarian Szukó ) is located in the western part of the hill country Laborecká Highlands a town on the northern eastern Slovakia, southwest of the city Medzilaborce.

History

The place was in 1557 (other sources speak of the year 1543) and was first mentioned in writing in 1500 from a Wallachian village. The rule Sukov then under the noble Drugeths; 1660 a Greek Catholic church was built in the village.

Population

The inhabitants are Slovaks half and the other half mostly Ruthenians, Ukrainians and Roma. They are mainly engaged in agriculture, as the region is very poor and economically underdeveloped.
