Supreme Federal Court

The Supremo Tribunal Federal ( German: Supreme Court ) is the supreme Court of Appeal of the Republic of Brazil. After the end of the Brazilian Empire in 1889, the Supremo Tribunal Federal occurred in 1890 in place of 1824 created pursuant to the Constitution of 1822 Supremo Tribunal de Justiça.

President of the Court since 2013 Joaquim Barbosa. He is the first Afro-Brazilian president of the Supreme Court.

Architecture and Architectural History

His representative office is located on the south side of the Praça dos Três Poderes in Brasília. The building is based on a design by the architect Oscar Niemeyer, it was already part of the Plano piloto.
