Suscévaz

Suscévaz is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Suscévaz is located on 445 m above sea level. M., 5 km west-southwest of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The scattered village stretches along the northern edge of the Orbeebene, on the southwestern slopes of Mont de Chamblon, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​4.2 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the northern Vaud Mittelland. The southern part of the municipality is occupied by the intensively farmed Orbeebene. The area extends southward over the canalized runs of Mujon, the Grand Occidental and the Thielle almost to the Canal Oriental. North of the village of the municipality floor comprises the partly wooded west slope of Mont de Chamblon, which is separated by the Talniederung the Bey from the heights of the Jura plateau. Population

With 194 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Suscévaz one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 93.3% inhabitants are French-speaking, 3.9 % and 1.7 % portugiesischsprachig in German (as of 2000). The population of Suscévaz amounted in 1900 to 144 inhabitants. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1141 under the name Sub Silva ( in the meaning of under the Forest). Later, the names Suceve ( 1315), Souceva (1368 ) and Suscéva ( 1536) appeared.

Since the Middle Ages Suscévaz was part of the rule Grandson. The Norbertine Lac de Joux (L' Abbaye ) possessed fundamental rights on the village territory. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 Suscévaz came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Yverdon. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Yverdon.
