SUSS MicroTec

SUSS MicroTec is a supplier of equipment and process solutions for the semiconductor market, microsystems technology and related markets. The high-precision systems for micro structuring such as photolithographic devices are used in the production of processors, memory chips, MEMS, LEDs and other microsystems technology components.

Headquarters of the sweet - Microtec group Garching.

Creation and development

In 1949, Karl Suss founded the Karl Suss KG and took over as a sales representative for Bavaria distribution for optical devices of the Ernst Leitz GmbH. With increasing technical expertise, the company has transformed itself from a pure sales company with five employees to contract manufacturers. The order from Siemens in 1963 to develop a simple photolithography equipment formed the basis for the subsequent direction of the company and the first step in the semiconductor industry. 1968, the company moved to its production and now 30 employees to Garching. In addition to the adjustment devices and systems for related processes such as development, cleaning and bonding are developed. With the wafer bonder, the company entered in 1980 in the USA in Waterbury / Vermont standard in production.

Commercial offices consist, inter alia in Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, China and Korea.

In 1999, the holding company of confectionery group as Süss Microtec AG on the stock exchange. In 2002, the subsidiaries were renamed Suss Microtec.

Subsidiaries

Since the founding of the company GMA in 1989, emerged from the former Elektromat in Sacka near Dresden, the company produces its own systems for the testing of micro - components. In 1993 Advanced Süss Microtec with the acquisition of the French SET its product range by a spin coater and Device Bonder. The next acquisition was accomplished in 1999 with Convac ( sold by the company Fairchild Semiconductor). Through the purchase of Image Technology, USA, since 2001 used for lithographic processes photomasks complement the portfolio of the group. Since the establishment of Suss Micro Optics in Neuchatel, Switzerland in 2002, the company also provides optical microlenses available. In 2007, Süss MicroTec sold the product division Device Bonder. With the purchase of Hamatech Ape at the beginning of 2010 and the sale of the division test systems the sweet group built on a core competence in the field of wet processes and relies on the other hand a clear focus on the microstructure of components. In 2012, the company buys Süss Microtec Tamarack Tamarack Scientific Co. Inc. develops, manufactures and sells UV projection lithography systems and laser micro-structuring systems.

Awards

2008 Süss Microtec was awarded the Georg Waeber Innovation Award of the Fraunhofer Society for his research in the field of UV - Nanoimprint Lithography. In cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute IISB ( Integrated Systems and Device Technology) Süss MicroTec has developed devices that support the new replication technologies in the micro and nanoscale.
