Švošov

Švošov ( until 1927 slovak also " Šôšov "; Hungarian SoSo ) is a municipality in Okres Ružomberok within the Žilinský in the north of Slovakia with 823 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011).

Geography

The municipality is located in the transverse valley of the Waag on the right bank at the mouth of the creek Komjatná, between the mountains Orava Highlands to the north and the Great Fatra in the south. The center is located at an altitude of 470 m nm and is 14 km from Ruzomberok ( road distance ).

Neighboring towns are Žaškov and Komjatná in the north, Hrboltová (district of Ružomberok ) in the east, the south and Hubová Stankovany in the West.

History

The village was founded in the second half of the 15th century on the territory of the castle Likava. At the beginning of the 16th century, the village was inhabited by Vlachs. Mentioned by name Švošov For example in 1572 as Ssossow. 1625 are mentioned in a directory Wallachian five yards and there was a small mill. 1784 were counted 30 houses and 321 inhabitants in 1828 and 63 houses and 437 inhabitants, who were employed in agriculture, forestry and rafting.

Until 1918, belonged to the lying in the county Liptau place the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today. In 1994, the seven- pain - church was consecrated, which replaced Matthew chapel was built in 1798.

According to the 2011 census lived in Švošov 825 inhabitants, of whom 807 Slovaks, Czechs and an eight Russine. It is a stop on the railway line Žilina - Košice. On the road 1st order Švošov 18 is connected by a bridge in Ľubochňa.
