Swaminathan Aiyar

Swaminathan, "Swami " S. Anklesaria Aiyar is an Indian journalist. He is publishing editor of the Times of India and a Fellow at the Cato Institute.

Aiyar studied at St. Stephen 's College, Delhi and at Magdalen College, Oxford University, where he received a master's in economics. He was from 1988 to 1990 editor of Financial Express and from 1992 to 1994 editor of the Economic Times. In addition, he spent two decades of India correspondent of The Economist. He has also advised the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. He is known for his weekly column in the Times of India and also occurs as a television commentator.

His topics include economic change in developing countries, Human Rights, New Political Economy, energy, trade and industry.

Aiyar invest next in social projects. He is head of Mukundan Charitable Trust. He has three microfinance organizations in Calcutta, Allahabad and Dehradun encouraged. Aiyar is on the Board of Directors of a Mikrofinanzorgination to promote artisans, and builds a fleet of ships, which should allow a medical supply on islands in the Brahmaputra.

Aiyar is married to journalist Shahnaz Anklesaria Aiyar and has three children, including the journalist Pallavi Aiyar.

He regards himself as a "liberal atheists ".
