Swatch FIVB World Tour 2012
The FIVB World Tour Women's 2012 consisted of twelve tournaments, of which eight were discharged as a Grand Slam and four as open.
Tournaments
The series began on 15 April in Brasilia and ended on 28 October in Bang Saen, Thailand. More open there was in Sanya and Åland. Shanghai, Beijing, Moscow, Rome, Gstaad, Berlin, Klagenfurt, Stare Jabłonki directed the Grand Slams out. Another originally planned event in Quebec City was canceled.
Brasilia Open ( 15 to 20 April )
As in the past three years, started the tour this time in the capital of Brazil. In the German Country Quota Karla Borger and Britta Büthe Victoria Bieneck and Juliet Großner overcame and sat down by then also in qualifying. In contrast, the Swiss people Heidrich / Kayer failed in the preliminary round. Their rural women Kuhn / Zumkehr won after their opening defeat in the main competition three times and occupied ninth place in the overall standings. The only Austrian starters Hansel and Monday Olli other hand, lost their first two games the same as the Germans Geeske Banck and Julia Sude. Borger / Bühte came as Semmler / Holt Wick next round and were each Seventeenth. Best German team were Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig, who were defeated at the semi-finals of Cicolari / Menegatti only in the game. The Italians then subject Talita / Antonelli, while the reigning world champions Juliana / Larissa Xue / Zhang Xi failed. The Chinese women secured the gold medal in the final, third parties were Cicolari / Menegatti.
Sanya Open ( 24 to 29 April )
Victoria Bieneck and Juliet Großner defeated in the German Trials Chantal Laboureur and Christine Aulenbrock, then failed, however, in the second qualifying round as Stefanie Hüttermann and Katharina Schiller wine. The same happened to the Swiss women Kayser / Heidrich. In the main field Köhler / Sude lost their first two games, while Borger / Büthe reached the seventeenth rank by a winning match, together with the Eidgenossinnen Goricanec / Grässli. After two games won at the start lost both their country women Kuhn / Zumkehr and the Austrian Schwaiger sisters their third and fourth game and were each ninth. Even better placed Monday Olli / Hansel, only lost in the fourth round for the first time and reached the semi-finals by another victory, which they lost to Talita and Antonelli from Brazil. In the other semifinal Larissa and Juliana prevailed against their set at Number One Chinese women Xue / Zhang Xi. While the Asians with Europeans secured the bronze medal in the encounter, the reigning world champions were defeated in the final of their countrywomen.
Grand Slam in Shanghai ( April 30-May 5 )
After their victory over Bieneck / Großner Anja Gunther and Melanie Gernert lost in the first round of the main qualifications as well as the Swiss pairing Goricanec / Grässli. In contrast, both the Austrian team reached the round of the last 32 teams. During Monday Olli / Hansel, however, their three group games could not win, Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger reached after her second place in the pool with two more wins the quarter-finals, where they lost to top-seeded Chinese women. Of the German couples met already in the group encounters Borger / Büthe on Goller / Ludwig, although in this game subject, but unlike their conquerors survived the first main round. Grand Slam in Beijing ( May 7 to 12 )
As in Shanghai, Günther / Gernert Großner, were also in the Chinese capital against Bieneck / enforce, and then won the second game in the German Country Quota against Borger / Büthe, only to lose in the first qualifying round with 0-2 records. The Swiss women Forrer / Vergé - Dépré not survive the preliminary round. It is better made their country women Goricanec / Grässli and the Austrians Schwaiger / Schwaiger. Grand Slam in Moscow ( June 6 to 11 )
While Bieneck / Großner in the failed German Trials on Banck / Walkenhorst in the subsequent qualification after their victory to Borger / Büthe could fight his way into the main draw, but lost there all three games in the pool phase. The first round was then terminus for the Austrian qualifiers Hansel / Monday Olli their country women Schwaiger / Schwaiger and Swiss women Zumkehr / Kuhn, while the two best German team Goller / Ludwick and Holt Wick / Semmler reached the knockout stages. The set of Number One Chinese women Xue / Zhang Xi have their billing as favorites and defeated after their success in the semifinals over Talita / Antonelli, the former world champions Walsh / May- Treanor, who had previously defeated their successors. In the Brazilian battle for the bronze medal Larissa and Juliana were able to prevail.
Grand Slam in Rome ( June 12 to 17 )
Banck / Walkenhorst defeated Gernert / Günther and Borger / Büthe won against Bieneck / Großner in the German pre-qualification. As in Moscow, could enforce that too then starting for the MTV Stuttgart duo. In contrast to the tournament in the Russian capital but Karla Borger and Britta Büthe all won their first round group games and then also her second round that Holt Wick / Semmler lost to the Austrian Schwaiger sisters. Grand Slam in Gstaad ( July 2 to 7 )
In the Country Quota is Banck / Walkenhorst prevailed over Bieneck / Großner and Schumacher / Köhler. They could also put through in qualifying and played together with Borger / Büthe, Semmler / Holt Wick and Goller / Ludwig in the main round. For Banck / Walkenhorst the end was reached with the last place in the pool round. While Goller / Ludwig could directly qualify for the second round, Holt Wick / Semmler and Borger / Büthe had to play in the first round, but could prevail there. All three German teams failed but then in the second round and so occupied all the ninth. In the final May-Treanor/Walsh were successful against Keizer / Van Iersel 2-0.
Grand Slam in Berlin ( July 11 to 15 )
The Grand Slam was held in Berlin for the first time in the forest stage instead. Bieneck / Großner, Aulenbrock / Laboureur and Banck / Walkenhorst able to prevail in the Country Quota and played in the qualifiers. The move to qualify automatically Goller / Ludwig, Holt Wick / Semmler, Borger / Büthe and Köhler / Schumacher was only Bieneck / Großner. Borger / Büthe finished the group stage of the main round with three defeats and ended up with it on the 25th place. In the first round Bieneck / Großner subject to the Italians Gioria / Momoli with 1:2 and were ranked number 17 Goller / Ludwig Koehler and / Schumacher landed after the off in the second round in ninth place. After a 2-1 win against the Australian duo Cook / Hinchley Holt Wick / Semmler was defeated in the semi-finals with 1:2 against the Chinese Xue / Zhang Xi and occupied after a 0-2 loss against Cicolari / Menegatti (ITA ) at the end of the fourth. In the final, the Brazilians Larissa / Juliana against Xue / Zhang Xi were successful 2-0.
Grand Slam in Klagenfurt ( 16 to 21 July )
Due to the last minute cancellation of Holt Wick / Semmler only two German teams were placed in the main field in Klagenfurt with Goller / Ludwig and Borger / Büthe. At the Country Quota is Gernert / Günther against Banck / Großner and Köhler / Schumacher against Mersmann / Tillmann were able to secure a place in the qualification. However, the qualifying for the main draw was only Köhler / Schumacher, but dropped out after survive the group phase together with Borger / Büthe in the first round and thus reached the 17th place. Goller / Ludwig subject in the second round of the Dutch team Keizer / Van Iersel with 1:2 and used for the fifth time on the World Tour this year the ninth. In the final, the Russian team Chomjakowa / Ukolowa defeated the duo Meppelink / van Gestel of the Netherlands 2-1.
Mazuri Grand Slam in Stare Jabłonki ( August 13 to 18 )
For the first tournament after the Olympic Games a total of six German teams had reported. Goller / Ludwig had here exposed, in order to concentrate on the German Championships in Timmendorfer beach.
In the Country Quota both Banck / Walkenhorst sat against Laboureur / Hüttermann and Bieneck / Großner against Mersmann / Tillmann 2-0. Both teams were successful in qualifying and thus played together with Holt Wick / Semmler and Borger / Büthe in the main field. Bieneck / Großner left with three defeats in the group stage. The other three German duo arrived with the first place in their groups directly into the knockout stages. There, however, only Holt Wick / Semmler able to prevail. They met in the quarterfinals on Kessy / Ross and were also successful with 2:1. After the 1-2 defeat against Larissa / Juliana in the semifinals, they were successful in the game for third place with 2-1 Chomjakowa / Ukolowa. The endgame could Larissa / Juliana decide 2-0 Cicolari / Menegatti for themselves.
Åland Open ( August 28-September 2 )
At the penultimate tournament of the World Tour 2012, the German champion Holt Wick / Semmler and Köhler / Schumacher for the main draw were set. In the Country Quota to Bieneck / Großner had previously prevailed against Hüttermann / Laboureur and played together with the duo Banck / Walkenhorst in qualifying. Both teams were able to qualify for the main draw. Köhler / Schumacher finished the tournament with a 0-2 loss against the Schwaiger sisters (AUT ) with 17th place. Bieneck / Großner subject the team Banck / Walkenhorst with 0:2 and thus occupied the 13th place. In the next round, Banck / Walkenhorst had the Brazilians Larissa / Juliana admit defeat and ended the tournament with a seventh place. Holt Wick / Semmler won the tournament with a 2-1 victory in the final against the Spanish duo Liliana / Baquerizo.
Thailand Open ( 23 to 28 October )
At season's final of the World Tour of the year occurred at four German teams. With the Olympic Ninth and for the first time on the tour set to one Holtwick / Semmler, Bieneck / Großner and Banck / Hüttermann three teams were set for the main draw. Cancer / Laboureur could prevail in qualifying and also played with it in the main field. To a German duel it came already successful in the first round, in the Banck / Hüttermann against Bieneck / Großner were. Cancer / Laboureur subject to the set of four Russians Wosakova / Wassina. They played with it together with Bieneck / Großner in the losers bracket. Both lost again and ended up at number 25 Both the ailing Holt Wick / Semmler, and Banck / Hüttermann subject in the second round of their opponents.
