The Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar ( SECEAM ), English:. Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM / SCEAM ) is the Continental Association of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and their coordinating body of the Roman Catholic dioceses.

History

The SECAM / SCEAM arose after Vatican II (1962-1965) and was founded in 1968 with the first visit of a Pope in Africa by Pope Paul VI. officially launched in Kampala. The SECEAM belong to the national bishops' conferences, the ten regional episcopal conferences and the meetings of the Catholic dignitaries of the Eastern Rite in Africa. The Secretariat is located in Accra, Ghana.

The current chairman is Polycarp Cardinal Pengo, Archbishop of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania; First Vice - President Francisco João Silota M.Afr. , Bishop of Chimoio in Mozambique, and second vice - president Théodore -Adrien Sarr Cardinal, Archbishop of Dakar in Senegal. Current Secretary General François -Xavier Damiba.
