Table tennis at the 2000 Summer Olympics
The XXVII. Four competitions 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney were held in table tennis. Venue was the State Sports Centre in Sydney Olympic Park.
All Gold medals went to the Chinese, as nearly all silver medals. Only the Swede Jan -Ove Waldner reached the final in singles.

The most came Jörg Rosskopf, who reached the quarterfinals after wins over Ashraf Helmy (Egypt), Yongxiang David Zhuang (USA ), Peter Karlsson (Sweden) and Toshio Tasaki (Japan), where he lost to the Chinese Liu Guoliang. Timo Boll failed in the second round to Werner Schlager ( Austria ), after Hamad Al Hammadi (Qatar ), Liu Song (Argentina) and Kim Taek -soo (South Korea) defeated. Peter Francis won in the first round against Matthew Syed (England ) and Jean- Patrick Sahajasein (Mauritius), in round 1 but against Jörgen Persson (Sweden) was eliminated.
Since the " standard Oppel " Rosskopf / Fetzner in advance missed the qualification was formed from the qualified individual in the German participants ' Notdoppel " Rosskopf / Boll. This remained in the preliminary round hanging: A win over Brett Clarke / Jeffrey Wayne Plumb (Australia) and the defeat of Slobodan Grujic / Ilija Lupulesku (Yugoslavia) were not enough to progress.

Qianhong Gotsch also reached the second round. She won against Rinko Sakata (Japan) and Suk Eun -mi (South Korea) and lost to Chen Jing ( Taiwan). Jing Tian- Zörner difference immediately against Åsa Svensson ( Sweden), as well as Jie Schoepp against Chen Tong Feiming (Taiwan).
The double Gotsch / Schoepp survived the first round by beating Wang Wenxiao / Hong Guang Xu Chris (Canada) and Gao Chang Jun / Michelle Do (USA), which was finished but against the Hungarians Csilla Bátorfi / Krisztina Tóth. Similarly far came sound / Struse that in the first round against Tawny Banh Ai / Jasna Reed ( USA) and Li Chunli / Karen Li ( siblings from New Zealand) won and were eliminated in round 1 against Li Ju / Wang Nan (China).
