Taddeo Gaddi

Taddeo Gaddi (* 1290 in Florence, † 1366 ) was an Italian painter and father of Agnolo Gaddi.

Life

Taddeo Gaddi was the son and disciple of Gaddo Gaddi, Giotto himself, his godfather joined, and had since about 1330 worked as an independent master in Florence. He surpassed his master, although vivacity, but not in delicacy of coloring; also is his drawing of volatile and often incorrect; as he stands by that of characteristic sensation and dignity. His main work is the life of the Madonna in the chapel Baroncelli in Santa Croce in Florence. May also be mentioned: a triptych in the Berlin Museum with the enthroned Virgin; a supper in Santa Croce; Madonna with Saints in Santa Trinita in Florence; a triptych in the Museum of Naples, dated 1366, Madonna with saints; Fresco paintings with scenes from the life of St. Francis in San Francesco at Pisa, where he worked in 1342. That Gaddi had also been an architect, based on an uncertain tradition. He died in 1366 in Florence.
