Tadeusz Brzozowski (painter)

Tadeusz Brzozowski ( born November 1, 1918 in Lviv, † April 13, 1987 in Rome) was a Polish painter and professor.

Life

1936 Brzozowski began to study art at the Krakow Academy. During the occupation of Poland in World War II, he continued his studies at the State School of Applied Arts Krakow under Fryderyk Pautsch. In 1946 he received his diploma. Among his teachers were Ignacy Pienkowski and Pawel Dadlez. Shortly after graduating Brzozowski was himself a teacher.

He worked from 1845 to 1954 at the Technical University of Cracow from 1954 to 1969, the high school of Fine Arts in Zakopane ( " Zespół Szkół Plastycznych in. Antoniego kenara w Zakopanem " ), from 1962 to 1979 as a professor at the Art Academy in Poznan ( polish: " Państwowa Wyższa SzkoĹ Sztuk Plastycznych ") and from 1979 to 1981 at the Krakow Academy.

Brzozowski was a member of the artist association Grupa Krakowska, 1957 from the group of young visual artist Kraków (Polish: " Krakowie Grupe Mlodych Plastyków " ) he, with their members Maria Jarema, Tadeusz Kantor, Kazimierz Mikulski, Jerzy Nowosielski, Erna Rosenstein and Jonasz star already had worked, had emerged. Also in the international richtenen artist group " Phases" he was active.

During the German occupation Brzozowski had got involved in the Cracow underground theater by Kantor. He came here as an actor in several plays. After 1945 he participated then at university theater " Rotunda ", were involved in the cantor and also novel Artymowski, who influenced him greatly in his artistic development.

Work

Brzozowski first painted compositions in which figures and objects were expressively deformed as in the pictures " Wagon" ( rail car ) from 1947 and " Kuchenka " (kitchen ) of 1950. Through the combination of realistic painted people with rough ambient objects he managed existientielle symbols and a combination of sincerity and sensitivity, which created a pathetic and yet familiar environment. Even here, the receptivity of the artist for colors, which should manifest itself later in his abstract works exhibited. In the 1950s, the gradual transition to abstract painting took place.

Brzozowski also created monumental works of art. In the 1950s, in collaboration with his wife Barbara Gawdzik Brzozowska - colored wall paintings in the churches of the villages Imielno and Mogilany. For the Philharmonic ( " Filharmonia Pomorska " ) in Bydgoszcz, and other institutions, he designed tapestries. In the years 1959 and 1975 Brzozowski presented at the São Paulo Biennial and 1962 at the Biennale of Venice. In 1997, a retrospective at the National Museum in Warsaw took place. In Zakopane, a street is named after the artist.
