Tagajō, Miyagi

Tagajo (Japanese多 贺 城市, -shi ) is a city in Miyagi Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan.

In tagajo is one of the three campus of Tohoku Gakuin University. The city is known for its historical buildings, during the Nara period, the castle was Taga (多 贺 城, Taga- jo ), after which the town is named, in the present town center of military expansion of the Japanese rule in the north, to 802 served the castle still as the administrative center of the surrounding area. The ruins of the castle is one of the three best-preserved buildings from the Nara period.

History

On 11 March 2011 the city was hit by the Tohoku earthquake and the subsequent tsunami. Until May 20, 186 dead and four missing were counted.

Tagajo located south of Shiogama and north of Sendai.
