Tägerwilen

Taegerwilen, to the north

Taegerwilen (formerly written Taegerweilen or Tägerweilen ) is a municipality in the district of Kreuzlingen in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland.

Geography

The village was built on the road between Konstanz and Ermatingen. Today the main roads 13 and 16 intersect in Taegerwilen. The municipality borders the shipyard, which connects the upper lake with the submarine, as well as Constance. Through the town performs the lake line and the route of the former Mittelthurgaubahn, which is now operated by Thurbo.

History

In the seventh or eighth century, the Alemanni set up operations in Taegerwilen. The first written record comes from the year 990 as Tegirwilare. The story Tägerwilens is strongly associated with that of the neighboring Constance. In Taegerwilen was also attended by the officers of the Bishop of Constance. They founded the castle and the later built next to Castell.

During the Reformation, the whole village came together with constancy over to the new faith.

The village was still in the early 20th century, heavily reliant on agriculture, it now has one predominantly industrial structure.

The community Taegerwilen also manages the Tägermoos, a constitutional oddity: The 1.54 km ² are indeed in the canton of Thurgau, but are assigned by a treaty of 1831 as a district of the German border town of Konstanz. The numbers given to area and population of Taegerwilen also contain the numbers of Tägermooses.

Castell

The present appearance of the castle Castell, which is privately owned, the building was given by Max von Scherer 1878-1894. It was built in 1725 in place of an older building dating back to 1585, which had in turn replaced an older building.

The Castle - one of the most important castles in the historicist Switzerland - stands opposite the ruins of the coming of the 12th century castle Castell, which was built by the Bishop of Constance Ulrich I of Kyburg - Dillingen as a seat for the ministeriales Schenk von Castell. The castle was destroyed during the Swabian War in 1499 by the Confederates.
