Taiwan Review

Taiwan today (德文 台湾 今日 评论) is a Taiwanese bi-monthly magazine, which is published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China in Taipei ( Taiwan) in German language. The magazine aims to inform the reader in German-speaking about the events in Taiwan.

History

Taiwan today was from September 1988 by the Government Information Office ( Government Information Office GIO), an agency under the Executive Yuan ( Cabinet or Council of Ministers = ) of the Republic of China in Taipei ( Taiwan ), edited and is intended for readers in Germany. From September 1988 to February 2000 resulted in the magazine entitled " Free China " to emphasize the contrast to the dictatorial regime of the Chinese Communists in mainland China. Between March 2000 and December 2002, the magazine was called " Taipei today." Since the dissolution of the GIO on 20 May 2012, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China serves as editor of the magazine.

The focus of the 65 pages of Taiwan today are issues such as the socio -economic development of Taiwan, as well as democratization, social issues, culture, art and many others are illuminated with carefully researched articles. As the only magazine of its kind with a focus on Taiwan Taiwan is now a reliable source of information for academics of the area of East Asian Studies and other interested parties, in particular with regard to the official government position of the Republic of China and the lives of people in contemporary Taiwan.

Versions in other languages

Taiwan today is the German language version of the English-language monthly magazine Taiwan Review, which first appeared in April 1951 under the name " Free China Review". Apart from Taiwan today, there are the following subsidiary journals in other languages ​​: Taiwan Hoy (bimonthly in Spanish, since September 1982), Taiwan aujourd'hui (monthly in French, since January 1984) and the Taiwanskaja panoramic (bimonthly in Russian since May, 1994). Publisher of these magazines is called the Government Information Office of the Republic of China in Taipei ( Taiwan).
