Taizé, Saône-et-Loire

Taizé is a commune of 185 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Saône -et -Loire in the Burgundy region.

Geography

The small community of Taizé is located on the Grosne, about 35 kilometers northwest of Mâcon and ten kilometers north of Cluny.

Neighboring communities of Taizé are Ameugny in the northwest and north, Bray in the east, the south and Massilly Flagy in the southwest.

History

The small community has become known by the community of Taizé, in 1949 settled in the village. It attracts every year thousands of predominantly young people.

Religion

In addition to the worship in the Catholic St. Mary's Church ( Église Sainte -Marie -Madeleine ) and Protestant services are held on Saturdays through the Communauté. Furthermore, it is celebrated daily except Sundays in the crypt of the Church of Reconciliation, a Catholic mass. In the Church of Reconciliation, the Communauté holds her prayer times three times a day. On Sundays there in the morning a Catholic Eucharistic celebration held the morning and accounts for the noon prayer.

  • Brother Roger Schutz ( born May 12, 1915 in Provence, Switzerland, † August 16 2005 in Taizé, France) was the founder and prior of the ecumenical life-long brotherhood of Taizé.
  • Brother Daniel de Montmollin ( born 1921 in Saint- Aubin, Canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland ) is a founding member of the ecumenical Taizé Community.
  • Brother Max Thurian ( born August 16, 1921 in Geneva, † August 15, 1996 in Geneva) was one of the first seven brothers of the Taizé Community and was regarded as the most important theologian of the ecumenical community. Together with Brother Roger, he was Council observer at the Second Vatican Council.
  • Brother Robert Giscard (* 1923 in Lyon, France, † March 12, 1993 ) was a physician and one of the first seven brothers of the Taizé Community.
  • Brother Eric de Saussure ( born December 23, 1925 in Geneva, † 17 October, 2007 Taizé ) was a French artist and member of the Taizé Community.
  • Brother Alois solver ( born June 11, 1954 in Nördlingen ) in August 2005 was the prior of the Taizé ecumenical brotherhood of and successor of the founder Roger Schutz.
