Takume

Takume (old name: Wolchonsky or Wolkonsky ), also called Pukamaru, an atoll of the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia, 120 km west of Fangatau is located. Takume belongs to the municipality Makemo, which consists of the atolls Makemo, Haraiki, Marutea North, Katiu, Tuanake, Hiti, Tepoto Sud, Raroia, Takume, Taenga and Nihiru.

Takume is 24 km long and in some cases 5 km wide. The lagoon has no navigable access to the sea and has an area of 42.4 km ². Takume consists of innumerable motus, which have an overall land area of 5 km ². The atoll has 93 inhabitants (as of 2002), the most important place of the islands is Ohomo.

The two atolls Takume and Raroia hot at the Paumotu originally Napaite, " The Twins" ( ite = two).

The atoll was discovered in 1820 by Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen, who gave him the name " Wolchonski ". 1996 airport on the island was inaugurated.
