Tamsalu Parish
Tamsalu (German Tamsal ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian Lääne- Viru with an area of 214.6 km ². It has 4546 inhabitants ( 2006).
Structure
Besides the main town, the city Tamsalu with 2572 inhabitants, the parish includes the villages Aavere, Alupere, Araski, Assamalla, Järsi, Järvajõe, Kadapiku, Kaeva, Kerguta, Koiduküla, Koplitaguse, Kuie, Kullenga, Kursi, Lemmküla, Loksa, Metskaevu, Naistevälja, Piisupi, Porkuni, Põdrangu, Sauvälja, Savalduma, Sääse, Türje, Uudeküla, Vadiküla, Vajangu, Vistla, Võhmetu and Võhmuta.
Culture and sights
The Porkuni Lake in the town attracts many hikers, anglers and nature lovers. From 1477 the Tallinn Bishop Simon of the Borch ( term 1477-1492 ) had the castle Borck Holm build on the lakeshore, from which a tower is still preserved today.
