Tánaiste

Tánaiste [t ˠ a nəʃt ː ʲ ə ] ( gespr "Ta -cally - te ."; Tánaistí pl; mostly with articles on Tánaiste ) is the title of the Irish Deputy Prime Minister and representative of the Taoiseach. The official Irish Salutation is a Thánaiste [ əha nəʃt ː ʲ ə ]. The Tánaiste is appointed by the Taoiseach and must be a member of the government, as well as a Member of the Dáil be. The word comes from the Irish Tánaiste Táinste and has historical origins as the name of the heir of a Celtic " leader " or " chief ".

The Tánaiste is the representative of the Taoiseach in the event that this temporary office may not exercise. In the event of death or circumstance, due to which the Taoiseach his office can no longer exercise, the Tánaiste takes over its tasks up to the investiture of a new Taoiseach. The Tánaiste, the title of which is largely an honorary title comes from the ranks of the Minister and shall be an ex officio member of the Irish Council of State. In the case of a coalition government of the Tánaiste usually comes from the second strongest coalition party; in single-party this office often takes a politician of the older generation as a sign of recognition.
