The Autostrada A57 (Italian for, highway A57 '), also Tangenziale Mestre is an Italian highway in the northeast of the country. The term " ring road " implies that the city is "touched", similar to a tangent touches a circle; Mestre is a district of Venice. On this bypass are several connection points, including the airport and the A27 ( Mestre- Belluno).

The A57 was established in 2009, when the new bypass around the A4 ( Passante di Mestre) was opened. The route branches off at Mira from the A4 and continue eastbound through Mestre to Quarto d'Altino, where she reunited with the A4.

History

The route of the A57 was released in three phases in sections for transport:

  • The section between the western node with the A4 and the toll Venezia / Mestre was released on 15 November 1933. This section is part of the route Padua - Venice, was built as one of the first motorways in Italy.
  • The section between the nodes with the A27 and the toll Venezia / Est was opened as part of the A4 Venice -Trieste on 22 February 1970.
  • The central section between the Mauststelle Venezia / Est and the node with the A27 was opened on 3rd September 1972. This route linking both already constructed highway sections of that A4 and today the Größteil the A57 dar.

Today's A57

Today's A57 can in turn be divided into these three sections:

  • From the western entrance, where it branches off from the A4, until the toll Venezia / Mestre. Here is the route six lanes (3 each lanes in each direction) with a hard shoulder. Until 1991, this section was widened to four lanes.
  • From the tollbooth Venezia / Mestre to the node with the A27 motorway is equipped with three dynamic lanes. Changing electronic scoreboards indicate at a distance of about 600-700 meters, if the lane in question is open and the speed at which the distance must be passed.
  • Between the A57 and the toll Venezia / Est A57 dual carriageway is expanded with a hard shoulder. 2009 and 2010 noise barriers were erected here.

Speed limit

The speed limit is, like most Italian highways, 130 km / h However, there are some sections of the highway a reduction in the speed limit.

Management

The highway is managed between km 0 and km 16.161 of the CAV ( concessioni Autostradali venete ). From the Italian motorway company Autovie venete based in Trieste, the section between km 16.161 and km 26.661 is managed.

Until November 29, 2009 was the section that is now managed by the CAV, under the administration of the Società delle Autostrade di Venezia e Padova.

Toll

From 1972 to 1991, was the toll-free area of the A4 between the toll Venezia / Mestre and the toll Venezia / Est. This tollgate was located between the junction with the A27 and the junction via Terraglio. This was abegerissen on 1 October 2005. 1991 was built about 9 km further east, a new toll, because this year the feeder road was completed up to the Venice airport. The toll-free zone of the A4 thus handed to the junction Quarto d' Altino.

On 8 February 2009, the former tollgate the new toll gate at the start of the A57 was closed and about 4 km further west into operation. Thus, the A4 Milan is continuous toll road to Trieste.

Volume of traffic on the A57 and measures

The central section of the A57 was opened in 1972 as part of the A4 and was four lanes ( two lanes in each direction) with extended shoulder. The route was designed for a traffic volume of 55,000 vehicles per day. After the fall of the Iron Curtain the volume of traffic increased year after year, far higher than the plans from 1972 ROCHE it. After the year 2000, the number rose to 150,000 (30% of trucks and buses ). The route of the A4 was so affected by frequent traffic jams. In addition, air pollution increased in Mestre.

Therefore, the state of emergency over the section of the A4 was found hanged in the city of Mestre on 28 February 2003 to 1 March 2004 by Silvio Berlusconi. On 19 March 2003, the Inspector delegato per l' emergenza socio economico della ambientale viabilità di Mestre established that the traffic situation should be solved by the establishment of the Passante di Mestre and the installation of the system T3 on the A4. This Commission was active until 27 November 2009.

System T3 and M.A.R.C.O

Between the toll Venezia / Mestre and the node with the A27 are currently two systems in operation, the system MARCO and the system T3 terza Corsia dinamica (third dynamic lane ).

The MARCO system continuously monitors the traffic along the route by means of sensors that detect the number of vehicles and their speed. In addition, the section is monitored with cameras, traffic participants are informed by changing electronic road signs ( traffic signs ) about the current state of the track. All data of the system are routed to a control center, which, if necessary, may initiate changes to the overhead lights on the A57.

The T3 ( terza Corsia dinamica ) system is built in operation since 14 April 2003. Was an emergency measure to reduce the traffic chaos on the A57 until the opening of the Passante di Mestre. Since you had no place to build another lane, the hard shoulder in a dynamic lane was converted. Depending on traffic, the hard shoulder is now available or is used as a lane.

This variable message signs indicate above the lanes, whether the respective lane is open and the speed at which this is passable.

The construction of this project was approved at the Conferenza di Servizi del 26/10/1999. This system has eased the traffic flow in the early years and the speed of vehicles by about 30 - 35 % increases, the accident rate decreased by 70%.

The T3 system is currently used in Italy alongside the A57 on a section of the A14 in Bologna.

Mestre bypass ( Passante di Mestre)

The Passante di Mestre is part of the A4. Was started in 2004 with the construction of these 32 -km detour route. This Passante di Mestre is six lanes and provided with a shoulder. The handover to the traffic carried on 8 February 2009. Passante di Mestre motorway bypasses the urban area north of Mestre and thus relieved the route of the A57 today. After the opening on 8 February 2009, the old section of the A4 was classified as A57.

Passante di Mestre importance of the A57

Just one month after the opening of the traffic in the middle section of the A57 by 20 - 30 % lower, in Gesamtabschitt by 15%. At the tollbooth Venezia / Mestre, the number fell on cars between 8 February and 30 June 2009 a total of 30 % compared to the previous year. The decline in trucks is 55%.

With the opening of the Passante the number of accidents fell on this route, by 71% in passenger cars in the first eight months of 2009.

In summer 2009 there was no longer waiting times more at toll plazas Venezia / Est and Venezia / Mestre. There was traffic jam every year due to the tourist traffic to the resort towns of the Upper Adriatic.
