Tanja Damaske

Tanja Damaske ( born November 16, 1971 in Berlin) is a former German track and field athlete. The javelin was 1998 European Champion.

Life

Damaske won at the Junior World Championships in 1990, still starting for the GDR, the gold medal. In the Universiade 1993, she won the silver medal. In 1994 she participated in the European Championships and finished sixth. In the same place she landed a year later at the World Championships in Gothenburg.

1997 occupied Damaske at the World Championships in Athens with 67.12 meters third place behind Norway's Trine Hattestad ( gold) and the Australian Joanna Stone ( silver). In 1998 it increased at the German Championships their personal best to 70.10 meters. At the European Championships in Budapest shortly afterwards she won with 69.10 meters gold medal in front of the Russian Tatjana Schikolenko ( silver) and the Finnish Mikaela Ingberg (bronze). They also won this year at the European Cup.

1999, a new spear has been introduced. This Damaske threw a new Weltbestweite at the German Championships with 66.91 meters. However, at the World Championships in Seville they had to give up due to an injury in the qualifiers. But she won again at the European Cup. In 2000, she was part of the squad for the Olympic Games in Sydney, but could not start because of an Achilles tendon demolition. In 2003, she ended her active sporting career, due to the increasing occurrence of health problems.

Tanja Damaske was 1995 and from 1997 to 2000 German Champion. She started for the SC tractor Schwerin ( 1985-89 ), the Schwerin SC ( 1990-92 ) and the OSC Berlin (from 1993). She is a psychologist.
