Tar (drum)

The Tar (Arabic طار, DMG TAR in Arabic male noun) is a common in the Middle East, Turkey and North Africa frame drum.

The drum consists of a single-sided with fur wood frame with or without tambourine. Playing it is held with one hand and struck with the other. Often the hand holding supports the playing hand. The Tar is played either as an accompaniment of other instruments or in special tar ensembles.
