Tau Scorpii

τ Scorpii ( Tau Scorpii τ, Sco) is a star in Scorpio. Its distance is about 500 light-years.

Together with σ Scorpii the star in the historic Arabic astronomy as Alniyat / Al Niyat (Arabic النياط, DMG to - Niyat ) was called.

The analysis of the spectrum of τ Scorpii by Albrecht Unsold recorded in 1939 during a visit of the Yerkes and the McDonald Observatory, provided the first detailed analysis of a star other than the sun.
