In Luttago (970 m), the first town in the municipality Ahrntal, the valley widens again. In the western direction Weißenbachtal branches, a small tributary to the same village to 1,334 m altitude. The Ahrntal even swings at Luttago in ostnordöstliche direction and maintains this about 25 miles to the source of the Ahr below the yoke Birnlücke at.

The following are the villages of St. Johann ( 1,018 m), Stone House ( 1,054 m ), St. Jacob ( 1,192 m ) and St. Peter ( 1,345 m). All these villages together form the municipality Ahrntal. After the village of St. Peter the valley narrows again a gorge. The road winds between steep cliffs and the raging Ahr up to the village Prettau ( 1,475 m). Along with the hamlet Kasern ( 1,582 m) makes this village, the northernmost town in Italy.

Climate, geomorphology and geology

The Ahrntal from Luttago is an inner- alpine longitudinal valley with a distinct trough-like cross section. The highest elevation is the Dreiherrenspitze with 3,499 m. Due to the high ridge of the Zillertal Alps, the valley is shielded from the north and through a plurality of stacked one on mountain groups also to the south. The annual rainfall varies 800-1200 mm, with rainfall unevenly distributed over the months and seasons. It is characterized by a strong summer rain maximum. The order of the wettest to driest season is summer, autumn, spring, winter.

The Campo Tures is drained by the River Ahr. With a length of 50.3 km and a catchment area of 629 km ² it is the most important right-hand tributary of the Rienz, which as a tributary of the Eisack belongs to the catchment area of the river Adige. The Ahr has in its upper reaches to the bottom of the wide Tures valley on steep slopes, flattens until something there and finally ends near Brunico to 815 m above sea level in the Rienz.
