Tavant
Tavant is a commune of 260 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Indre- et- Loire in the Centre region.
Geography
The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park Loire -Anjou- Touraine.
History
Tavant was founded in the late 10th century as belonging to the abbey Marmoutier Priorat.
Attractions
Village church Saint -Nicolas
The Romanesque village church Saint -Nicolas has become known for its frescoes from the mid-12th century. It was probably built around 1120 by monks of the abbey. The unpretentious building of white ashlar stone was originally a basilica with three naves; today lack the aisles.
Frescoes in the choir
The damaged frescoes in the choir received in 1945 exposed. In the Apsiskalotte the " Majestas Domini " is shown with the symbols of the Evangelists and angels. The barrel vault of the Chorjochs shows two image regions incidents from the childhood of Christ, from the Annunciation to escape to Egypt.

The real surprise of the church is the crypt. Eight squat pillars support a fully maltes with kleinfigurigen representations vault. You have probably never painted over and go without apparent sensible sequence between biblical scenes, images of saints, and allegorical cosmological themes.
