Ted Gärdestad

Ted Gärdestad ( born February 18, 1956 in Sollentuna, † June 22, 1997 ) was a Swedish singer, musician and composer.

He was discovered by Stig Anderson, and his first single was released in 1971 at Polar Music. His debut album was produced by Undringar Björn and Benny from ABBA and was like the other albums a chart success in Sweden. Gärdestad tried four times at Melodifestivalen (1973, 1977, 1979, 1980), but only in 1979 he was able to achieve victory with the pop - rock track satellite. When Euro Vision Song Contest 1979, he had to be content with the third- last place.

In 1981 he sang for the Caramba project, after which he retired from the music business. In the 1990s, he had a successful comeback, played a new album and went on tour. 1997 He died by Suicid, by throwing himself in front of a moving train. He suffered for years from paranoid schizophrenia.
