Telecom Argentina

Telecom Argentina S. A. is a large telecommunications company based in Buenos Aires. It is listed on the Bolsa de Comercio de Buenos Aires in MERVAL.

Telecom Argentina was established on 8 November 1990, after a competitive tender of telecommunications licenses by the government of Argentina.

History

In 1948 under President Juan Domingo Perón all private telecommunication companies were nationalized and the Teléfonos the Estado formed. This was renamed in 1957 in Empresa Nacional de Telecommunicaciones ( Entel ). In 1990, the Entel was privatized and divided into a southern and a northern company ( Sociedad Licenciataria Norte SA). In the north the Nortel Inversora SA was established on 8 November 1990.

The shares of Telecom Argentina are held by the following shareholders:

  • 54.74 percent - Nortel Inversora

The value Hein family took over in late summer 2003, the participation of France Telecom for $ 125 million.

Structural data

The Telecom Argentina has over 12,000 km of fiber optic cables and IP backbone networks and is South America's largest ATM network with over 560 nodes. It has nearly 14,000 employees.
