Terence McKenna

Terence McKenna ( * November 16, 1946; † 3 April 2000) was an American philosopher and a pioneer of Ethnopharmacology. One of the focal points of his research was the study of shamanism. He published several books mainly on expansion of consciousness, different herbal drugs and psychoactive mushrooms, Amanita muscaria in particular over the mushrooms ( Amanita muscaria ), Psilocybe cubensis Psilocybe and others.

Life and work

As part of his research, he spent much time in the South American rainforest where she gained experience in many shamanic techniques and mind-altering plants.

The computer program "Time Wave Zero", based on the King Wen sequence of the Chinese I Ching, was co-developed by him and forms the mathematical basis for his Novelty Theory. According to this theory, this sequence the course of the emergence of new ( " Novelty " ) over the centuries represents the fractal time wave as he called it, ended on December 21, 2012. On this day ended after the calculation of many authors the calendar the Maya.

Also McKenna is known for its diverse speculations about the message of the so-called Voynich manuscript.

After several months of medical treatment McKenna died on 3 April 2000 a malignant brain tumor. He died surrounded by his family. McKenna was 53 years old and leaves behind his son Finn and daughter Klea.
