Teresa Ciepły

Teresa Barbara Ciepły (* October 19, 1937 in Brodnia; † March 8, 2006 in Bydgoszcz, born Teresa Wieczorek ) was a Polish athlete and Olympian. In 1964, she was with the Polish 4x100 - meter relay Olympic gold medalist. Two years earlier she had been elected in their home country Athlete of the Year.

Ciepły belonged to the early 1960s, one of the strongest sprinters in the world. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, she won under her maiden name Wieczorek with the Polish Season (Barbara Janiszewska, Celina Jesionowska, Halina funnel) 4 x 100 meters bronze medal in 45.0 seconds behind the U.S. ( 44.5 ) and the Federal Republic of Germany ( 44.8 ).

Two years later at the European Championships in Belgrade, she won two titles: the 80 - meter hurdles and the 4x100 - meter relay; in the 100 -meter run, she was also behind Dorothy Hyman and Jutta Heine third parties.

The biggest success of her career, she finally celebrated at the XVIII. Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 1964, when she became a member of the Polish 4x100 - meter relay ( with Irena Kirszenstein, Halina Górecka and Ewa Kłobukowska ) in 43.6 seconds Olympic champion ahead of the U.S. ( 43.9 ) and the UK ( 44.0 ). She also won the silver medal behind the Germans ( = DDR) Karin Balzer, which simultaneously ran 10.5 seconds in the 80 - meter hurdles.

Ciepły was married to the hammer thrower Olgierd Ciepły.
