Texas (Queensland)

Texas is a small town in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland. It is just 2 km north of the border with New South Wales at the Dumaresq River, 166 km south-west of Brisbane and 56 km south west of Warwick. Texas is part of the Local Government Area Goondiwindi region and at the 2006 census had a population of 693

History

In the area of present-day Texas Aboriginesstamm of the Bigambul lived for thousands of years before in the 1840s, European settlers arrived.

The city's name is widely acknowledged to have attributed to land disputes. The land was first settled by the brothers McDougall, but their land occupied found at once, when they returned from the gold fields. When her claim was finally recognized on the land, they named their ground after the much better-known dispute between the U.S. and Mexico over the territory of Texas.

In November 1930 Texas was joined by the Texas railway line with Inglewood, 56 km to the north and the South - West rail line. 1994, this rail line was abandoned.

Until about 1980, the cultivation of tobacco was an important economic activity in the area. Many Italian -born families operated tobacco plantations.

Agriculture is the dominant industry today in and around Texas. But there is also a silver mine.

5 km southwest of Texas, in New South Wales, the Bruxner Highway runs (Australian Route 44 ) from Ballina to Boggabilla, south of Goondiwindi.

After a visit to the small town of Texas in 2002 and a car accident near the mentioned American country and Rockabillysänger Jason Lee Wilson in one of his songs TX, QLD, Australia. The song can be found on the debut album Music to Haul By the Cumberland Runners of 2004.

Lee Keranghan mentioned the city also in his song Texas, Qld 4385, which became a hit in 2005 and was published in the same year on the album Electric Rodeo.
