Thad Allen

Thad William Allen ( born January 16, 1949 in Tucson, Arizona) is an admiral in the U.S. Coast Guard ( USCG) and was their Commandant 23 to 25 May 2010.

Life

Allen A native of Los Angeles, where he lived for a long time in Tucson (Arizona ). He graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1971.

In his tenure, - as Atlantic Area Commander and Commander of the Maritime Defense Zone Atlantic - the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, the integration of the USCG in the Department of Homeland Security (2002), as a Principal Federal Official ( PFO) addressing the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (2005) and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. Allen was chief of staff of the coast Guard 2002 to 2006.

He succeeds Admiral Thomas H. Collins as Commandant of the Coast Guard, whose term of office he took over in 2006. He is succeeded by his former deputy, Vice Admiral Robert J. Papp. On May 1, 2010 Allen was appointed personal disaster Representative of the President for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico ( National Incident Commander for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico ); this office he held still.

Allen holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Public Administration.
