Thomas H. Collins

Thomas H. Collins ( born June 25, 1946 in Stoughton, Massachusetts ) is a retired American Admiral and Commandant of the Coast Guard.

Life

After schooling Collins graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London ( Connecticut ), this graduated in 1968 and then joined the U.S. Coast Guard. A subsequent post-graduate studies of the so-called " Liberal Arts" ( Seven Liberal Arts ) at Wesleyan University, he finished in 1972 with a Master of Arts (MA Liberal Studies ). In addition, he studied business administration at the University of New Haven in 1976 and earned a Master of Business Administration ( MBA).

During his long military career took place in 1994 was promoted to Rear Admiral and appointed commander of the 14th Coast Guard District in the Pacific (Pacific Area) in Honolulu. Subsequently, he was Chief of the Procurement Office of the U.S. Coast Guard before he held the Vice Admiral commanding the Pacific Area commander, and 11th Circuit of the U.S. Coast Guard in the Pacific in 1998. After he was between 2000 and 2002 Vice Commander, he was also promoted in June 2002 as a successor to Admiral James Loy Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard and the Admiral. A post he held until his replacement by Thad W. Allen in 2006.

For his services he was awarded among others, the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal.

After ending his active military service, he became director of USIS Holding Corporation.
