The Cats

The Cats were a Dutch pop group, which was successful in her home country by the mid-1960s until the mid- 1980s. In the early 1970s she also had some hits in the German-speaking countries.

Style

The Cats preferably made ​​pop music that lived mainly on vocal harmonies and was accompanied by acoustic instruments. They made borrowings from folk and country music. In the Netherlands, the term was coined Palingsound (Dutch paling, eel ) for their musical style, including because they came from the fishing village of Volendam. Brief history of the band

Their first single ( Jukebox ) took the Cats in 1965. In 1966 she had her first hit with the title What a Crazy Life. In 1968 they managed their first # 1 in the Netherlands with Lea. At the beginning of the 1970s they also had more success in other European countries. These mainly include the Title One Way Wind (1972 No. 1 in Switzerland ) and Let's Dance. Attempts to reach the Anglo- American market were, however, unsuccessful. The Cats placed repeatedly recordings in their home in the charts until 1985 Piet Veerman left the group to start a solo career.

In 1994, Cees Veerman took, Arnold Muhren and Jaap signs with guest musicians like Jan Akkerman Album Shine On on, but could not build on his earlier successes. After the Flemish singer Dana Winner solo had in 1994 a cover version of " One Way Wind " published in their mother tongue, west wind, they took in 1996 the piece again with Cats Piet Veerman singer as a duet on.
