The Hub (Edinburgh)

The Hub is a former church in the Scottish capital Edinburgh. It lies on top of the Royal Mile. The building contains several function rooms of which the largest has a capacity of 420 people, a café and a library. The rooms can be rented for weddings, banquets and receptions. The buildings belonging to the church tower is the highest point of the city of Edinburgh.

History of the building

Today's festival headquarters was originally the Highland Tolbooth Church. It was built in the years 1839 to 1844 for the Church of Scotland in the Gothic Revival style. The architects were Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin and James Gillespie Graham. Due to the unification of the Church of Scotland with the United Free Church of Scotland, the church was closed in 1979. After the building stood empty for some years, it was first used as a meeting hall for the Scottish Parliament. Then it was converted to a venue with a café and restaurant as the Scottish Parliament had in 2004 received its own building at Holyrood.
