The Little Drummer Boy

Little Drummer Boy ( "The Little Drummer " ) is an American Christmas song. It tells the story of a poor boy who can not afford it, the newborn Jesus to make a gift and thus plays with the consent of the Virgin Mary for him on his drum. Miraculously, the newborn seems to understand and smiles at him gratefully.

Formation

Written and composed the song was under the original title The Carol of the Drum in 1941 by Katherine K. Davis. The Henry listed as co- authors Onorati and Harry Simeone have contributed various arrangements of the song. The song first became known in the version of the Trapp Family Singers mid-1950s.

Versions

One of the most famous versions was 1977 sung by Bing Crosby and David Bowie as a duo ( Peace on Earth ). This version was Bing Crosby's most successful recording since White Christmas.
