The Lovebirds

The Lovebirds is a Portuguese episode movie from the year 2007 by Bruno de Almeida. After the film had its world premiere on 18 June 2007, he ran regularly on 13 March 2008 in the Portuguese cinemas.

Action

Against the backdrop of the city of Lisbon, the film shows six simultaneously running stories. They show various facets of human relationships: love, grief, friendship, loneliness, passion and hope. A recently widowed Americans pursuing a woman he saw in the subway, the streets of the Alfama, and ends in the circle of her family warm. Two petty criminals combines an unequal friendship. An aging director shoots a recent film about a boxer ( Fernando Lopes, in allusion to his Belarmino ). An obsessed archaeologist (played by Sopranos actor John Ventimiglia ), an immigrant taxi driver with dramatic love entanglements, and a strange walking pilot are other figures.

Reception

This independent film is also a love letter to the city of Lisbon, which is set here with atmospheric images and precisely drawn characters from different angles in the scene. The interplay of his life told very different scale episodes of the film is a very special, of melancholy and happiness at the same time influenced atmosphere. The written by José Mário Branco movie theme is appropriately sung to by fado singer Camané.

The Lovebirds won the 2008 awards at the Ourense Film Festival and the Porto Fanta Festival.
