The Main Ingredient (band)

The Main Ingredient is an American soul and R & B lineup from Harlem, which celebrated its greatest success in the 1970s.

History

The group founded in 1964 under the name of The Poets. The founding members were lead singer Donald McPherson, Luther Simmons Jr. and Tony Silvester. After they had some shots at smaller, local labels, they named themselves into The Insiders. It was followed by a record deal with RCA Records. In 1966 they changed their name a third and final time in The Main Ingredients.

The group joined Bert DeCoteaux, which produced their first U.S. Top 30 hit: You've Been My Inspiration. This was followed by I'm So Proud ( the cover version of a song by Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions ), Spinning Around ( I Must Be Falling In Love ) and Black Seeds Keep on Growing, all better placed in the charts.

1971 Donald McPherson died unexpectedly of leukemia and Cuba Gooding senior (the father of actor Cuba Gooding Jr. ) took his place. His first single with this group was Everybody Plays the Fool in 1972, the group earned not only a gold disc ( RIAA certification ), but both the pop and R & B singles chart placed in the Top 5. Also gold status had Just Do not Want to Be Lonely from the year 1974.

Tony Silvester left the group in 1976, not only to start a solo career, but also to start with Bert DeCoteaux own production company. He was briefly replaced by Carl Tompkins, but the following year the group split up. Cuba Gooding senior went to Motown and Luther Simmons Jr. was a stockbroker. The group reunited twice more in the formation Silverman, Simmons, Gooding - once 1979-1982 and again in 1986, but your publications were not nearly as successful as in the 1970s.. Luther Simmons Jr. was again briefly replaced by Jerome Jackson. In 1999, The Main Ingredient formed again with Carlton Blount as the new lead singer. Tony Silvester died on 27 November 2006 at the age of 65.

In Germany, The Main Ingredient in the late 1990s was once known as the Group of Friends for their song Esperanto ( from the eponymous album ) arrangements from the song That Is not My Style by The Main Ingredients used. In 2005 it achieved the same lush, subtle piano - string arrangement with the song On My Knees by The 411 Group again in the charts.
