Donald McPherson (figure skater)

Donald McPherson ( born February 20, 1945 in Windsor, Canada, † 24 November 2001 in Munich) was a Canadian figure skater, who started in a single run. He is the world champion of 1963.

Donald McPherson began at the age of four years with the figure skating. He started for the Stratford Figure Skating Club, which is located in Ontario. The 1960 Olympic Games, in which he turned 15, he finished in tenth place. From 1960 to 1962 he was a Canadian runner behind Donald Jackson, the 1962 world champion. In his triumph, he even missed the podium in fourth just barely. 1963 McPherson joined then even succeeded his compatriot, winning at the age of 18 years, the World Cup and is so far the youngest figure skating world champion of the men in the story. He then finished his amateur career, turned pro and then worked for 10 years with Holiday on Ice.

Donald McPherson was inducted into the Canadian Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995. Later in his life he moved to Munich, where he died on 24 November 2001 from the effects of diabetes.
