The Miracle of Papu is a French film by Jean- Pierre Mocky farce from the year 1987.

Action

Papu is a loafer, working for his church in Paris in a warehouse where things used to be offered, and worried additional funds by hat tricks. When he sold the Eiffel Tower balloons to tourists, he is approached by a car. From then on, it simulates a bilateral leg paralysis in order to collect the insurance money can. Production

The Miracle of Papu was shot in Paris, Alfortville, Salies -de- Béarn and Lourdes, the main scenes were recreated in Lourdes grotto in the studio together. The costumes created Jeanine Gonzalez, the Filmbauten come from Étienne Méry, Patrice Renault and Jean -Claude Sevenet. The film was released on 18 February 1987 in the French cinema, where he was seen by 824,303 visitors, and was shortly afterwards under the title The Miracle at the Berlinale 1987. A theatrical release in Germany did not take place. On 21 July 1995, the film was first shown on German television under the title The Miracle of Papu on the ARD. In 2005, the film was released in France on DVD.

Criticism

" The crude joke carelessly staged farce is calculated to hurt religious feelings ," wrote the Catholic filmdienst. For Cinema, the film was a " frivolous farce about the business of religion."

Awards

The Miracle of Papu ran in 1987 at the Berlin International Film Festival in competition for the Golden Bear. In 1988, the film received two César Award nominations: Jeanne Moreau was nominated in the category Best Actress and Sylvie Joly in the Best Supporting Actress category.
