The Radio Dept.

The Radio Dept.. is a Swedish indie pop band from Lund. Dept. stands for Department (Department), the band name means radio department.

Band History

The band was formed in 1995 by schoolmates Elin and Johan Duncanson Almered. The band name they took from a gas station with radio repair, followed by attention with a sign saying Radioavdelningen ( Radio Dept. Swedish ). However Almered and Duncanson soon ended their cooperation.

Three years later, the formation of Johan Duncanson was revived, this time in collaboration with Martin Larsson. In 2001, Larsson's then girlfriend Lisa Carlberg on bass thereto, followed by Per Blomgren on drums and Daniel Tjader on the keyboards. 2001 Finally, the band sent recordings to music magazine Sonic, received a positive review, and came on a CD sampler supplied free by the magazine. Responsible for Labrador Records heard the recording on the disc and brought them to her label. Per Blomgren, however, rose even before the publication of their album Lesser Matters and Lisa Carlberg left the group after the release of This Past Week EP. The band then decided to use digital drum tracks and to renounce the use of a bass guitar throughout.

After Pulling Our Weight, I Do not Like It Like This and Keen on Boys as the soundtrack to Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette had appeared, the band received widespread critical acclaim. In early 2006, their second album, Pet Grief was published. The reviews were mixed. NME Pet Grief rated 7 out of 10 rating units, other magazines judged but not quite as positive. Finally, Pet Grief found thanks to the internet but still a growing popularity and wide following. In 2006, her single We Made the team out as 100th publication of the Labrador label. All 100 Singles are on the compilation Labrador 100 2007 - published A Complete History of Popular Music.

Said in 2007, the band from their UK tour and spent most of the time in the studio working on her new album. Clinging to a Scheme should first appear in the spring of 2008, but was not ready even to the second scheduled release date in September. Labrador had to inform you that delaying the recordings indefinitely. To bridge the waiting time, the band Freddie and the Trojan Horse brought out. A year later, the first single from the new album was released with David. Finally, in the spring of 2010, the second single Heaven's on Fire was released to coincide with the finished album that could not place in the Swedish Sverigetopplistan.
