Labrador Records

Labrador Records is a company specializing in indie pop and twee - pop Swedish record label.

History

The label was founded in 1997 by Bengt cream. Initially, the goal was to hang up only Swedish pop bands. Soon came on the Acid House Kings managed a contact with Summer Sound Recordings. The band members Joakim Ödlund, Niklas and Johan Angergård were also the owner of Summer Sound Recordings. Both labels shared the enthusiasm for melodic indie pop with hints of electronica and twee - pop. Therefore, they merged in 2001 to Labrador Records, which at that time was known only to few.

With the success of The Radio Dept.. in 2003 was the big breakthrough. Their debut album Lesser Matters landed in Sweden at number 1 on the charts and also the New Musical Express was aware of the band. This also the awareness of the label rose steeply. Bands such as The Legends and Corduroy Utd. went on tour in Germany and cemented the good reputation of the label in the indie scene. Meanwhile, the Labrador label has become a determining factor.

Current Situation

The shops are now run by Johan Angergård, the directors are Bengt cream, Joakim Ödlund, Niklas Angergård and Mattias Berglund. This new bands are under contract, all members of the senior management must still agree. As its 100th publication of the labels and the 10 year anniversary special price compilation Labrador 100 was 2007 - A Complete History of Popular Music brought out.
