Theo Travis

Theo Travis ( born 1964 in Birmingham ) is a British saxophonist, active in both the jazz and in progressive rock.

Biography

Travis graduated from flute and saxophone at the University of Manchester and worked with, among others Jade Warrior, Gong, Porcupine Tree, The Tangent, Bass Communion, No-Man, David Sylvian, Burnt Friedman, Anja Garbarek and Dave and Richard Sinclair. Since 1999 he has recorded several albums with bassist Dave Sturt and various guest musicians under the band name Cipher. In 2006 he became a member of Soft Machine Legacy ( with the Soft Machine musicians Hugh Hopper, John Marshall and John Etheridge ), a project that cares for the music of the band Soft Machine and further developed; there he went on to succeed the late Elton Dean. In 2008 he released an album with Robert Fripp King Crimson - head, which can be assigned to the ambient genre. In 2011 he played on the world tour by Steven Wilson ( on his solo album Grace for Drowning ) and took part in the recording of his third solo album The Raven That Refused to Sing ( And Other Stories ) and the subsequent tour.
