Theodor Goldschmidt

Carl Theodor Wilhelm Goldschmidt ( born June 4, 1817 in Berlin, † January 4, 1875 ibid ) was a German chemist and founder of the " chemical factory Theodor Goldschmidt ".

Life

Theodor Goldschmidt came from a wealthy Jewish family. After the early death of his father, his two uncles were Karl Goldschmidt (1792-1857) and Friedrich Eduard Goldschmidt (* 1794) determined as guardians, both owners of the calico printing R. Goldschmidt & Söhne in Berlin, but even in his lifetime should go bankrupt.

Theodor Goldschmidt studied at the Berlin University of Chemistry and enjoyed his training as a colorist, an expert in the color scheme of substances. He converted in 1834 to the Protestant Christian faith. In 1847 he founded his own company, " Chemical Factory Theodor Goldschmidt ".

He was a very educated man who was very interested in philosophy and kept contact with many well-known chemists. His business achievements, however, were limited more to the preservation rather than the expansion of its stagnant company, what probably familiar reasons are responsible. He had a heart condition and his wife died in 1862.

After his death, first took his son Dr. Otto Kersten (1839-1900), geographer and African explorer, the small factory in trust for the remaining two minor sons. 1882 or 1888 then rose studied chemist Karl Goldschmidt and Hans Goldschmidt in on the Board. They expanded the business field away from the sole resource production for the textile industry and relocated its headquarters to 1890 Ruhr in Essen.
